Though the mule deer is not local, Charles chose it as a subject because it is a very beautiful animal.

While hand-picking the grapes, we often come across quail in the vineyard. Quail duck and bob under the vines and eventually fly back into brush piles or wild berries. The colors and shapes of these autumnal leaves are very true to life. Joe's portfolio is full of quail paintings, including his California Upland Game Bird Stamps.
