WOOD DUCK LOVERS' GALLERY
Here are some examples of life imitating art in the gallery and on our land. Wood ducks are sneaky (and squeaky - they don't really quack) little fowl that are beneficial to our land in so many ways. We put up boxes they will build nests in year after year. If you like this story, visit the vets and pets gallery, too.
In 2008, we put up more boxes on the property - now there are over a dozen up. We had three familes of wood ducks use them that season. When the babies are born, they fall out onto the grass. Their bones are quite mallable, and this is the natural way they're introduced to the "real" world outside the box. Click here to see how we've framed Terry Redlin's The Conservationists (32" x 23".) Terry is one of the many people in our gallery responsible for millions of dollars going to wildlife conservation and education.
Since 1991, California Waterfowl’s Wood Duck Program has hatched over 474,000 ducklings from boxes placed and maintained by volunteers across the state. This year will see that number go over the half a million mark. This is the most extensive volunteer nest box program in North America, thanks to the efforts of over 400 active volunteers statewide.

PAINTINGS OF WOODEN DUCKS, TOO
Okay, so it's a bad play on words, but these are "wood ducks" in their own way. Decoys are a hunter's silent friend - we have some rare originals and old prints in the gallery you may enjoy.
